SGS, the inspection company, is digitising its reporting. Since the beginning of May, the German laboratories have been transmitting the results of analyses and product tests in electronic form.

'With digital test reports, SGS customers receive their analyses even faster - including those by SGS Institut Fresenius and SGS-TÜV Saar,' says Stefan Steinhardt, Managing Director of SGS Group Germany. 'Our 40 locations in Germany are saving more than four million print copies a year. If you connect them together, they would form a paper route from our German headquarters in Hamburg to the test labs of our colleagues in Shanghai.'

Digital signature provides security

SGS customers can recognise the validity of electronic documents by means of embedded signatures and root certificates. 'SGS digital test reports are as secure as official versions printed by our laboratories', explains Managing Director Stefan Steinhardt. 'We send the documents in a trusted PDF format with a third party authenticity verification. A separate digital authorisation concept is used to map the dual control principle.' SGS electronic test reports meet accreditation requirement standards for test and calibration laboratories in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.

Climate neutral online transmission

SGS aims for optimal climate balance in changing from a postal route to digital delivery. The multinational testing and inspection company has already received several awards for its commitment to sustainability; most recently in 2017 the RobecoSAM Sustainability Award as an 'industry mover' for special achievements in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

The inspection company also has a worldwide commitment to the sustainability of their customers. Whether environmental or occupational safety or social responsibility, SGS experts produce sustainability reports, certify energy management systems and determine carbon footprints, i.e. the ecological footprint of a company.
